The Journey

Day 1

Trails and roads at El Pedregal Valley and Santa Rita Ecological Reserve

You will leave Quito early in the morning (7:30am) and head towards Hacienda El Porvenir. At the hacienda, you will leave your luggage and get your bike. You will be biking on gravel and dirt roads for 4 km until you reach the northern entrance to Cotopaxi National Park. From there, a beautiful downhill will take you to Santa Rita. Mountain biking trails that will take you to the heart of the reserve where you will enjoy a packed lunch. In total, the loop will take approximately four and a half hours. In the afternoon, you will hike to the Condor Machai waterfall. After, either hop in a vehicle or bike back to Hacienda El Porvenir. You will stay overnight at Hacienda El Porvenir.read more

Day 2

East Route and El Tambo trail

Wake up and eat breakfast at the hacienda. Today’s ride will cover 42 km (26.09 miles) with an average altitude of 3800 m/12.464 ft. It is a worthwhile effort. You will cross the eastern road of Cotopaxi National Park, visiting some sites on the way including Inca Ruins, fresh water springs, and Andean lakes. You will then follow a beautiful 18 km exclusive trail to El Tambo where you will eat a boxed lunch. At your arrival to El Tambo Hacienda house, you will be welcomed with a drink next to a crackling fireplace and a hot shower. A delicious dinner will be served. Day 3

The road of the lahars and return to civilization

Start your day with breakfast at the hacienda. Then, you will leave early from the El Tambo house and begin your return to Hacienda El Porvenir. The first 20 km have a slight uphill inclination and short climbing portions. Once you reach El Encañonado, the road flows downhill and the bike can roll without much physical effort. You will eat a boxed lunch. Soon, you will reach the higher road of El Canal which is a flat road following a water canal. The views are superb. You will pass by Limpiopungo Lake and finish at Hacienda El Porvenir where you will sleep overnight. The bike takes approximately 7 hours.read more

Day 4

Cotopaxi Downhill

Start your day with breakfast at the hacienda. You will leave on a vehicle to Cotopaxi National Park. The parking lot is situated at 14.400 ft. From there, you start your descent of 3200 ft to the valley. The routes depend on the technical level of the riders. You can go downhill several times through different routes or the same one. A packed lunch will be served at Limpiopungo gate. In the afternoon, you will return on your bike or in a vehicle to Hacienda El Porvenir and then back to Quito.read more
