Revive yourself at Tumaren

  • Basecamp Retreat
  • Meditation Retreat
  • 4 days; 3 nights
  • 1 to 10 travelers
  • Begins & ends in Kimanjo
3 nights spent at Tumaren Camp will leave you fully recharged and smiling. The huge tents all look out over an open plain and the wildlife saunters past and to the salt lick throughout the day. Here you can relax or be as active as you like. We offer the walks, tracking, camel rides, picnics, rock climbing at all levels, swimming, a visit to the local school and market on certain days. There is something for everyone. Our game viewing Land cruisers are also always at the ready and can be used day or night to look for our the rich wildlife that distinguishes Laikipia as one of the most hopeful conservation models on the continent. Over the course of your time at Tumaren you might choose to explore the Ewaso Nyiro River and the band of lush vegetation that follows its banks. The river is an excellent spot for approaching the Elephant herds that come down to drink as well as the other animals attracted by the water or the thicker habitat. Exploring Nayasura and the other rock kopjes around Tumaren can also occupy mornings and evenings and rock climbing is always a great option for those that have an interest. Our local market days fall on specific days of the week and for those interested in culture it is worth inquiring about the timing of these colorful gatherings of merchandise. Its a wonderful experience and we love it.read more

Kerry Glen

In the wilder stretches of Laikipia, Kenya. Kerry Glen and James Christian have been running Karisia Walking Safaris since 2003. On Tumaren, their ranch that they manage exclusively for wildlife a visitor can see a large diversity of large game while walking beside camels who carry water and snacks. For kids who can tire more easily they often times prefer to game-spot from camelback, often times approaching Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s Zebras and plains game closely. The walks are guided by Kerry and James as well as by their teams of excellent Samburu and Masai guides. Gabriel Ewoi is the lead guide at Karisia and while simultaneously fluent in the Latin and English names of everything you see, he is also fluent in the cultural, geological and ecological stories that piece Laikipia together.read more
