Lapa Rios creates an intimate and authentic experience, at once luxurious, educational and inspiring. Here, the fast pace of modern life for a slower rainforest rhythm. 1,000 acres of private reserve await those seeking a way back to nature. Oversized hammocks promise quiet and calm for others in search of space to think. Jungle trails lead the way to inspiring places few come to know. Here, you can catch a breath of fresh Osa air far away from civilization. Dare to digitally detox and wander where the Wi-Fi is weak. You’ll find respite from a world of noise; reconnection with yourself and your loved ones; a renewed sense of inner peace. All in complete, off-the-grid comfort that provides a true window to the beating heart of the wild Osa Peninsula where nature thrives in its rawest form. Lapa Rios achieves the impossible – what you get is a genuinely authentic rainforest experience without having to compromise at all on comfort or safety. And what do you get when you cross a Costa Rican architect with a Costa Rican biologist? The answer, apparently, is the nature-focused minimalism of Kurà, which its owners have achieved with abundant glass, shiny teak and sleek steel. Add to that some oversize purple hammocks, an L-shaped infinity pool and some well-placed his-and-hers white lounge chairs, and presto: a Bali-style lovers paradise. Eye-catching masks, an important cultural symbol of the nearby Borucan tribe, complete the polished look.read more

I was born with a passion for the map's blank spaces. Exploring them is where I feel most alive and am filled with the greatest sense of wonder and intrigue for the world around.

The Journey

Day 1

Arrive in Costa Rica

After flying to San Jose, you'll catch a regional flight on SANSA air to the pristine and most undeveloped part of Costa Rica —  the Osa Peninsula and Corcovado National Park. A team will be waiting for you to accompany you along the 45 minute drive to Lapa Rios.

Day 2

Lapa Rios

All guided on-property tours are included in your stay — so immerse yourself in the rainforest and join as many tours as possible! HIghly experienced Naturalist Guides offer an authentic local interpretation of the extraordinary natural beauty of our rainforest reserve. With them, discover 360° of our biodiversity — from the roots of the trees up beyond the canopy, and out to the sea. Exploring the rainforest without a skilled guide is like walking into a library without knowing how to read. That’s why we include a number of guided nature and wildlife tours in the Lapa Rios experience. The trained eyes of our expert guides will help you unearth the secrets and curiosities of our vast, enigmatic ecosystem.read more

Day 3

Lapa Rios

Take a beach day and get active on a paddleboard, a horseback ride, or open-water swimming.

Day 4

Lapa Rios

Hike through the rainforest on your descent towards the Carbonera riverbed, a great area to search for endemic species such as dart frogs and other unique rainforest creatures. Once down there, you’ll splash through the river en route to a pristine waterfall and its cool plunge pool for some swimming. This is a fun rainforest experience with some adventurous hiking, particularly enjoyable for nature lovers looking for a little challenge. Some wet walking and irregular terrain involved.read more

Day 6

Depart Lapa Rios and arrive at Kura

You'll take a private transfer service from Lapa Rios to Kura — a 3.5 hour but extraordinarily scenic drive. The managers at Kura — a marine biologist and an architect — have made appreciating nature and the sea downright sexy. The name means “jaguar,” and the jungle cat appears in some of the stylized iconography, but otherwise, there’s nothing folkloric. It’s far more contemporary cosmopolitan hideaway than homey hacienda or upscale surf shack, two of the motifs that have long defined many Costa Rican micro-hotels. Kura’s six freestanding junior suites and villas and Instagram-ready infinity pool are perched atop a bluff some 1,000 feet above the “whale’s tail” of Uvita Beach, which emerges at low tide. Many of the rooms and public spaces are at the height of the rain forest canopy, which makes them prime spots for bird-watching. Even the view from the public washroom near the lounge area is drop-dead gorgeous.read more

Day 7

Right on our doorstep you’ll discover the largest area of protected land designated to National Parks and nature reserves in Costa Rica. You’ll find world-class snorkelling, surfing and extraordinary marine life too.
